I am a photographer with a background in documentary and visual storytelling, shaped by more than two decades of experience as a U.S. Army combat photographer. Throughout my career, I documented missions and human stories across dozens of countries, where accuracy, intention, and respect for the subject were essential. That foundation continues to influence how I approach photography today.
After retiring from military service and relocating to Costa Rica, my work shifted toward extreme macro insect photography. Living in one of the most biodiverse regions in the world, I began applying portrait lighting, patience, and problem solving techniques developed through years of documentary work to subjects measured in millimeters. Each insect is approached as an individual portrait rather than a specimen, with light and composition used to reveal character, structure, and presence.
This portfolio reflects my interest in slowing down the act of looking and encouraging curiosity. By revealing details that exist beyond normal human perception, my work invites viewers to reconsider scale, beauty, and the complexity of the natural world.
